On October 30, 1986, Magistrate Gustavo Zuluaga Serna was assassinated by three hitmen who shot him seven times when he was traveling in his vehicle with his wife Carmelita Valencia de Zuluaga down Bolivariana Avenue in west Medellín. His wife, who was eight months pregnant, was shot three times and was taken to Conquistadores Clinic, where she recovered.
